Plasticity and Robotics
نویسنده
چکیده
The link between robotic systems and living systems is increasingly considered to be important. However finding out more precisely which properties these two kinds of system must share is a difficult question to answer. It is suggested that behavioral plasticity constitutes a crucial property that robots must share with living beings. A classification is then proposed for the different aspects of plasticity that contribute to global behavioral plasticity in robotic and living systems. These are mainly divided into four dimensions and three orders. Finally some consequences of this classification are mentioned regarding the future of biologically-inspired robotics and the role of evolutionary AI.

A Strain Range Dependent Cyclic Plasticity Model
Hysteresis loop curves are highly important for numerical simulations of materials deformation under cyclic loadings. The models mainly take account of only the tensile half of the stabilized cycle in hysteresis loop for identification of the constants which don’t vary with accumulation of plastic strain and strain range of the hysteresis loop. This approach may be quite erroneous particularly ...
متن کاملInitial blank design of deep drawn orthotropic materials using inverse finite element method
In this work, an inverse finite element formulation was modified for considering material anisotropy in obtaining blank shape and forming severity of deep drawn orthotropic parts. In this procedure, geometry of final part and thickness of initial blank sheet were known. After applying ideal forming formulations between material points of initial blank and final shape, an equation system was obt...
متن کاملLearning to do without synaptic plasticity: evolving adaptive neural networks controllers for autonomous robot
Recently research in the field of Evolutionary Robotics have begun to investigate the evolution of learning controllers for autonomous robots. Research in this area has achieved some promising results, but research to date has focussed on the evolution of neural networks incorporating synaptic plasticity. There has been little investigation of possible alternatives, although the importance of e...
متن کاملAssessing and inducing neuroplasticity with transcranial magnetic stimulation and robotics for motor function.
OBJECTIVES To describe 2 new ways of assessing and inducing neuroplasticity in the human brain--transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and robotics--and to investigate and promote the recovery of motor function after brain damage. DATA SOURCES We identified recent articles and books directly bearing on TMS and robotics. Articles using these tools for purposes other than rehabilitation were e...
